A recent SCOPUS-indexed study co-authored by Dr. Mohamed El-Guindy and researchers in cyber-security and artificial intelligence examines the growing intersection between renewable energy systems and cyber-security. As renewable energy technologies are rapidly adopted, the increasing digitalization and interconnectivity of energy infrastructures introduce new cyber-security challenges that require innovative and adaptive protection mechanisms.The study presents a comprehensive review of more than 19 research papers exploring the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in securing renewable energy systems. The analysis identifies both the opportunities and limitations of integrating AI into this critical infrastructure domain. Findings show strong consensus regarding AI’s effectiveness, with over 75% of the reviewed studies acknowledging its significant potential to enhance the cyber security of renewable energy systems.Among the techniques examined, machine learning emerges as the most widely used approach, achieving detection rates of approximately 85% and false positive rates below 5%, demonstrating strong performance in detecting cyber threats within energy environments.Despite these promising results, the study highlights key challenges that remain unresolved, including the limited availability of relevant datasets and concerns about the interpretability of AI models, both of which affect reliability and adoption in critical energy infrastructures.
